TML Macadamia Tree Varieties

TML have 30 macadamia tree varieties including Tetraphylla, Integrifolia and the new commercial 'A' varieties which are Hybrids of both. They supply the Home Gardener and Commercial Grower with appropriate macadamia tree varieties for their situation. TML have sole propagation rights and are maintaining a register of the 'A' varieties in New Zealand. The 'A' varieties are bred by Henry Bell (ex New Zealand) www.hvp-macadamias.com and consistently feature among the world's top performing macadamia tree varieties and display the following characteristics;

Dropping of macadamia nuts - The macadamia trees drop their nuts when they are ready to be harvested; the macadamia nuts are harvested mechanically off the ground. No costly picking gangs required.
Increased productivity - The macadamia trees produce earlier and consistently higher than existing NZ varieties. The variety options are small and open or upright, bearing fruit close to the macadamia tree trunk, allowing high density planting. i.e. more macadamia trees and more production per hectare.
Increased return – The macadamia kernel recovery is 10-15% higher than the thicker shelled NZ macadamia tree varieties, i.e. more kernel-less shell giving 10-15% more income. Thick macadamia nut shells mean more kernel breakages and high labour costs for sorting shell from kernel. The kernel recovery weight is the measure of productivity, not the NIS (nut in shell) weight.
Suitable for smaller lots of land - Top quality performers and high density macadamia tree planting, is an attractive investment option for smaller land blocks where one macadamia orchard contractor can easily manage several small blocks of macadamia trees within a region.
Low maintenance - The ‘A' varieties open and/or upright shape do not require heavy pruning, are excellent pollinators and require minimal maintenance other than mowing, fertilising and harvesting - all mechanically.
Nutritional Supremacy - The nutritional properties of macadamias are far superior to other nuts. The TML macadamia tree varieties have high oil content enabling processing at higher temperatures for a better quality macadamia nut product.
