REPRESENTED BY: TORERE MACADAMIAS - Vanessa and Sharnalese 2009 - Rod, Vanessa and Walter 2008. JC NUTS - Jeff and Daehu FIELD DAY REPORT for Sunday 21st September 2008 A big thank you to our enthusiastic macadamia visitors. Thankyou to Grant and Sharon from Tauranga who lost their neighbours Gordon and Glenys on the way to sightseeing the beautiful local beaches, thank you to Robert who drove from Auckland and did a bit of sightseeing as well and thank you to Hank and Susi, our very late arrivals from Opotiki. Funny how the closest always arrive last. The Tauranga neighbours obviously get on very well and between them used their new found knowledge to chose varieties to maximise their existing varieties with pollinators for the late harvesters and early harvesting varieties with producing shelters - a great arrangement. They also have a brilliant business plan to capture the massive potential in collecting and marketing all the macadamias they can find in the Bay of Plenty and surrounding areas. We support them totally and will release more detail in due course - watch this space! Robert is waiting excitedly for possession of a very fertile block of land to plant 500 macadamias next month. He is now able to identify the varieties to grow on his block to match the different soil and terrain and complete a planting plan using macadamias for shelter as well. This block is close to several marketing outlets and he has overseas contacts that will take all the macadamias he can produce - so he will be very successful in his new venture. Hank and Susi are organic growers and will plant their whole block in macadamias over the next month. They are 2km away from an existing 600tree 2 yr old block that is also organic. We are excited because the number of organic blocks with 500plus trees in and around Opotiki is steadily increasing. Come join us and learn everything about macadamias - commercial or home garden varieties. Congratulations to Vanessa Hayes
