Costs and Returns
TML has established costs and returns to set up a 1ha block based on three ‘A’ varieties with spacing of 6 metres between rows and 3 metres between trees within those rows.

$17,175 | Initial set-up costs include shelterbelts and macadamia plants. Ongoing costs include additional fertiliser, mulching, mowing and harvesting, de-husking and drying the NIS before delivery to the factory.
Returns
The following table is an estimate of the returns from a mix of three ‘A’ macadamia varieties - assuming that only 300 of the 555 are producing at year three. Kernel returns at $21/kg are nett (50% estimated costs deducted for processing and marketing), based on current retail prices of $39.95 - $49.95kg. Seasonal prices extend to $59.95kg kernel.
